Our Approach

Drawing on the rich heritage of British documentary filmmaking, 24 Foot Square specialises in witnessing lives, exploring untold stories from the margins of cinema, and revealing the humanity within overlooked subjects and institutions. Our films are characterised by:

  • Intimate observation – Close, patient attention to our subjects

  • Conversational storytelling – Allowing people to tell their own stories in their own words

  • Creative independence – Maintaining artistic control throughout the filmmaking process

  • Long-form narrative – Taking the time needed to fully explore each story

The Filmmaker

Chris Collier was born in Brighton, East Sussex, and has spent over fifteen years working in documentary and experimental film. His background in sound design and music production informs his approach to filmmaking, bringing a keen attention to the auditory dimension of documentary storytelling.

Chris is best known for his documentary trilogy exploring stories from the edge of cinema: Captured Souls: In Conversation with Graham Humphreys (2025), Title (Year) Director. Place (2023), and FrightFest: Beneath the Dark Heart of Cinema (2018). Each film celebrates obsessive dedication to cinema in its various forms—whether through poster art, film cataloguing, or festival curation.

In parallel with his documentary work, Chris has created experimental art-house films and installations, including collaborations with contemporary pop artist Billy Chainsaw, exhibited in galleries across London.

Andy Nyman

"Taking a unique approach... director Chris Collier allows his subject to do most of the talking... Rather than having a proliferation of the same old talking heads, we get a deeper understanding... Collier's technique brings the revelations to the fore organically."
